Old Town Worthington


General - Worthington is one of central Ohio's most historic communities. Much of downtown Worthington and several neighborhoods are colonial in atmosphere. However, many areas are ultra-modern, and some exhibit the Frank Lloyd Wright architectural style. Worthington has an outstanding school system with superior programs in both academics and athletics. The Worthington Mall provides fashionable, upscale shopping. There are many parks including Antrim Park, where you will find bike and running paths for the exercise enthusiasts. The Pontifical College Josephinum, the only pontifical seminary outside Italy, is located here. Worthington is only 15 minutes from downtown Columbus and Port Columbus International Airport, conveniently close to everything central Ohio has to offer.

Neighborhoods - Offering a very diverse housing market, Worthington Ohio, exhibits both traditional colonial and newer ultra-modern architecture. Homes in the Worthington area range from $75,000 to more than $900,000, with an average sale price of over $150,000. Buyers can choose from 100+ year old homes in Old Worthington, mid-priced ranches and two stories, or stately executive homes in the newer neighborhoods. Some of the more popular communities are: The Village of Riverlea, The Estates at Olentangy, Bristol Way, The Woods at Josephinum, and Stilson Highlands.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 14,125 people, 5,692 households, and 4,052 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,494.6 people per square mile (963.5/km²). There were 5,845 housing units at an average density of 1,032.3/sq mi (398.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.97% White, 1.71% African American, 0.12% Native American, 2.77% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.98% of the population.

There were 5,692 households out of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $68,568, and the median income for a family was $83,074. Males had a median income of $59,258 versus $39,424 for females. The per capita income for the city was $34,495. About 1.4% of families and 2.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.4% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those age 65 or over.
